i am sooo with you on the food. you know it's the first thing people talk about at an event. i come from a career in event planning and that was always the main priority.

another thing I sometimes pay attention to is the guest list...esp. if it is a smaller gathering. it's important to create an environment that your guests will feel totally comfortable in so having a good mix of people that know each other and don't know each other is important.

other then that you seem to have hit the nail on the head :)

I'm glad to hear the Hillside Festival is alive and well! I volunteered there when I was a student at the University of Guelph a million years ago. I will have to keep it in mind for next year. Sounds like you had a great time. It is definitely a special event.

you can also roast beets if you have too many. it makes em last longer. then chop them into salads/pastas etc.

I can't do that... What about furniture? I agree with you on books, and I would also fold magazine subscriptions into there.. So many things.. So many meta-things..

I think next week, every night I'm going to sit down and go through a box with a beer in hand. See where it goes. :)

i read that article too and LOVED it. i would love to do a tally of the stuff I own. I bet it wouldn't be too far from one hundred (one exception...books count as one item. they are good for you).

i am the opposite of a pack rat. for almost everything I have I say to myself "Do i really need this?" and if i hesitate for a second, its gone.

it also helps if you don't give everything you own sentimental value. if you do that then you are really in trouble.
